Upgrading to Spga 2010 version 2.0.1528.1 and later causes breaking changes to existing Provisioning Management sites created with Spga 2010 version 2.0.1318.1 and older. This article describes how to upgrade Spga 2010 version 2.0.1318.1 and older.

Step 1 : Retract and remove existing Spga 2010 SharePoint Solutions

  1. From Central Administration, in the left menu, click System Settings
  2. On the System Settings page, in the Farm Management Section, click Manage farm solutions
  3. From the Solution Management page, click SPSolutions.Spga.Administration.2010.wsp
  4. On the Solution Properties page, click Retract Solution
  5. From the Retract Solution page, click OK
  6. On the Solution Management page, wait until the solution has been retracted, click SPSolutions.Spga.Administration.2010.wsp
  7. From the Solution Properties page, click Remove Solution
  8. On the Solution Management page, click SPSolutions.Spga.2010.wsp
  9. From the Solution Properties page, click Retract Solution
  10. On the Retract Solution page, click OK
  11. From the Solution Management page, wait until the solution has been retracted, click SPSolutions.Spga.2010.wsp
  12. On the Solution Properties page, click Remove Solution

Step 2 : Upgrade to the latest Spga 2010 version

Step 3 : Upgrade existing Provisioning Management site

  1. Open the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, click Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products -> SharePoint 2010 Management Shell
  2. Run the Upgrade Provisioning Management Site SharePoint 2010 PowerShell command

Step 4 : Recreate or migrate site workflows

If you are using a workflow to approve requests you will need to recreate your workflow on the new request list. If you are using a SharePoint Designer declarative workflow it may be easier to migrate your workflow from the old Request list to the new Request list. Follow the steps below to migrate an existing SharePoint Designer declarative workflow.

  1. In SharePoint Designer, open the Provisioning Management Site
  2. Open an existing (source) workflow to migrate, click Workflows -> Select workflow
  3. From the Workflow Editor, in the Manage section, click Export to Visio
  4. Create a new (target) workflow, click Workflows -> List Workflow -> Requests
  5. On the Create List Workflow page, enter the workflow name, click OK
  6. From the Workflow Editor, add a dummy activity, click Action -> Add a comment
  7. Add a dummy condition, click Condition -> If any value equals value
  8. Save the workflow, click Save
  9. From the Workflow Editor, in the Manage section, click Export to Visio
  10. Rename each exported .VWI file to a .ZIP and extract the contents of each file to a folder.
  11. Copy the workflow.xoml and workflow.xoml.rules files from the source workflow folder to the target workflow folder.
  12. Compress the contents of the target workflow folder back to a .ZIP file and rename it to .VWI
  13. From the Workflow Editor, import the updated target workflow, Import from Visio
